چکیده

Vortical flows in shallow water interact with long surface waves by virtue of the nonlinear terms of the fluid equations. Analytical formulae are derived that quantify the spontaneous generation of such waves by unsteady vorticity as well as the scattering of surface waves by vorticity. In a first Born approximation the radiated surface elevation is linearly related to the Fourier transform of the vorticity. The “dislocated” wavefronts that are analogous to the Aharonov-Bohm effect are obtained as a special case. PACS Numbers: 47.35.+i; 47.32.-y

A reduced dynamical model is derived which describes the interaction of weak inertia-gravity waves with nonlinear vortical motion in the context of rotating shallow-water flow. The formal scaling assumptions are (i) that there is a separation in timescales between the vortical motion and the inertia-gravity waves, and (ii) that the divergence is weak compared to the vorticity. The model is Hami...

Two component integrable systems modelling shallow water waves: the constant vorticity case

In this contribution we describe the role of several two-component integrable systems in the classical problem of shallow water waves. The starting point in our derivation is the Euler equation for an incompressible fluid, the equation of mass conservation, the simplest bottom and surface conditions and the constant vorticity condition. The approximate model equations are generated by introduct...

Effect of non-zero constant vorticity on the nonlinear resonances of capillary water waves

The influence of an underlying current on three-wave interactions of capillary water waves is studied. The fact that in irrotational flow resonant three-wave interactions are not possible can be invalidated by the presence of an underlying current of constant non-zero vorticity. We show that: 1) wave trains in flows with constant non-zero vorticity are possible only for two-dimensional flows, 2...

Scattering of dislocated wave fronts by vertical vorticity and the Aharonov-Bohm effect. I. Shallow water.

When a surface wave interacts with a vertical vortex in shallow water the latter induces a dislocation in the incident wave fronts that is analogous to what happens in the Aharonov-Bohm effect for the scattering of electrons by a confined magnetic field. In addition to this global similarity between these two physical systems there is scattering. This paper reports a detailed calculation of thi...

BEM-FDM modeling of water free surface interaction with trapped air in OWC chamber for calculating generated power

Free surface modeling plays an important role in some ocean structures design, especially in Oscillating Water Column (OWC) devices. Boundary element method (BEM) is a suitable method for free surface modeling due to its simplicity, quick solving, and low data storage requirement. In this paper, BEM was used for free surface modeling in OWC chamber and out of it. Linear kinematic and dynamic bo...
